Transgender Day of Remembrance

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Transgender Day Of Remembrance is an annual event on the 20th of November which honours the memory of the trans people whose lives were lost in acts of transphobic violence during the previous 12 months. Every year vigils and ceremonies are held across the world to remember those we have lost and to raise awareness of the violence trans people face while simply trying to live their lives. We will be running this webinar to highlight the transphobia the community is experiencing today, to demonstrate how to be trans inclusive in your organisation and how to ally your trans colleagues so that they can feel safe and comfortable in their working environment.

Inclusive Language Approaches

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Inclusive language is central to inclusive spaces, yet there are both overt and more subtle challenges holding us back.

When we can talk about inclusion and exclusion, we can begin to understand the challenges and make improvements. Yet, fear of getting it wrong is the overt challenge that holds many of us back. Because language changes, evolving over time, we can find ourselves worried that the words we have to explain what we think and see aren’t the right words.

The more subtle challenge is less about the words and more about the context in which we use them. Stereotypes are biases that we’ve picked up from our environment. These often influence our communications without us realising it. For example, talking about a female engineer, or a male nanny. Adding gender to the role, when we wouldn’t do that for the opposite sex. Subtly reinforcing that these are not normal within our society. Subtle ‘othering’ through our language sends messages on the status quo for different groups, making it more difficult to challenge and change.

Inclusive Performance Management

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Performance management is an important part of any organisation and its operations. It’s about monitoring, managing and empowering your team to work to the best of their abilities. It’s not a once a year review, or a one step process, it’s about a series of practices which run on a constant ongoing basis. If, as managers and leaders, we are conscious about conducting performance management in an inclusive way, we can ensure we are supporting everyone’s needs and goals so that they can perform to their best and excel in their job.

Inclusive Sport: Disability and Para sport

Virtual Event Virtual Event

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games showcased a record number of para sports with a total of 8 para sports in the programme.  However, this increasing spotlight on para sport isn’t necessarily leading to increased participation across the board.

Recent Activity Alliance research suggests that less than one in five non-disabled people have experience of taking part in sport and less than half disabled and non-disabled people actually know someone else with a disability.  The need for solutions and action is pressing. It is clear that organisations need to both raise the profile of and opportunities for disabled people to engage in sport and physical activity, from participation and performance sport to coaching, employment and board roles.

Avoiding Performative I&D in 2023

Virtual Event Virtual Event

In the last few years, we have seen organisations applying performative I&D, doing what they think looks good without the follow through to ensure they are doing the work to be truly inclusive organisations. We see outrage from the public on social media and organisations being ‘cancelled’. This happens because people can see when an organisation isn’t being authentic and ensuring they work by the principles they promote.

In this webinar we will address the issue of performative I&D, how it happens, what the impacts are and how to avoid it

We will look at the key principles in understanding mental health and resilience in your business post Covid and how to embed mental health awareness and understanding into your organisation.
