Looking for community representatives from Black, Asian or other ethnic minority backgrounds

Inclusive Employers, an Inclusion and Diversity membership organisation, have partnered with West Yorkshire Police to assist police officers and staff with widening their knowledge, skills and insight, to support the diverse communities of West Yorkshire. Policing in Black and other ethnic minority communities has a long and complex history resulting in mistrust. The 2-day training programme aims to equip officers and staff further to serve the local communities in an effective and culturally sensitive way.

To do this, we are looking for community representatives who could participate in the training program by sharing their experiences. To take part, you must:

  • Live in West Yorkshire
  • Be from a Black or other ethnic minority background
  • Be able to deliver f2f
  • Be open to speaking to police officers and staff about your lived experiences as a person from an ethnic minority background

In addition to the essential criteria above, we would be particularly interested in people who:

  • Have experience with the criminal justice system
  • Have a close relationship with a person or people who have had contact with the criminal justice system
  • Have had interactions with West Yorkshire Police either as a victim of a crime or in connection with a crime
  • Feel passionate about making a positive impact on the future of policing

Community representatives that take part in the training programme will receive training, wellbeing support and a financial payment for giving their valuable time to the programme. There will be a short vetting procedure.

If you would be interested in participating, please contact the project lead, Tanisha Singla, on tmsingla@inclusiveemployers.co.uk, who will arrange an informal telephone conversation.
