Sam Phillips - Inclusive Employers

CMI Trainer and Area Specialist

Sam is an ex Police Officer, who served for Hampshire Constabulary for nearly 19 years. Having spent 13 years working on the frontline, she then qualified as a trainer and completed 6 years in the Initial & Operational Training department, training and guiding the new recruits through the initial stages of their learning journey, out onto the streets. On a temporary promotion to Acting Police Sergeant, she had a particular passion in leading teams, with inclusion and welfare being at the heart of her everyday drive. She also spent most of her career as an LGBTQ+ Link officer, supporting both the public and colleagues in this area by sharing her lived experience.

Her police experience allowed her to work within a truly diverse cross section of our communities, working in additional roles such as a Licensed Search Officer, qualified to conduct Counter-Terrorism searches and patrol Royal visits, and as a Protest Liaison Officer deployed to work in such arenas such as ‘Pop Up events’ and pre-planned protests across the county.

Prior to originally joining Inclusive Employers as an associate, she also lectured at Winchester University delivering modules on their ‘Professional Policing’ degree.

Sam then officially joined Inclusive Employers as a CMI trainer & Area specialist in March 2023, and is truly excited to combine her vast ‘blue light’ knowledge and training, and bringing this alive in the world of Inclusion.

What do you enjoy about your role at Inclusive Employers?

The challenge, the variation, and the feeling that we are a massive part of the positive change on a daily basis.

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

My wife and I have 2 beautiful little boys; after 3.5 years of IVF, multiple heart breaks and treatment spanning from London to Spain. I then utilised this difficult / wonderful lived experience to record a very personal Pod Cast for Hampshire Constabulary on the subject of IVF as a part of National Inclusion Week.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

“Don’t wait for your ship to come in……. swim out to get it.”

Tell us something about you that we might not know.

I once ‘guarded’ the late Queen’s toilet!
