Kayla Thwaite - Inclusive Employers

Kayla joined Inclusive Employers in May 2023 following a decade-long career in Learning, Leadership and Management Development in the FMCG industry. For the last couple of years, she focussed her work on Inclusion, facilitating Employee Resource Groups, hosting a podcast and establishing an Inclusive Leadership programme for senior management teams.

At Inclusive Employers, she’s part of the CMI Training team; designing training content, delivering training on Organisational Culture and Coaching for Leaders and supporting learners to complete their qualifications.

What do you enjoy about your role at Inclusive Employers?

Being surrounded by folk who share the goal for making the workplace (and the world) a more equitable space and who in an everyday way demonstrate the power of diverse thinking and true inclusion.

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

Sharing my story with postnatal depression and opening the door for others to share their stories too.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Maya Angelou said, ‘“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.’
The fear of getting it wrong or of offending someone is often what stops people getting involved in the inclusion conversation. This advice – whilst not given to me personally – is a daily reminder to me that the goal isn’t perfection. The goal is learning to do better.

Tell us something about you that we might not know.

I sing. Not well, but I sing. Singing with other people, in particular, brings me joy. I’d happily see upright pianos and spontaneous communal singing make a comeback.
