National Inclusion Week 2021 webinars - Inclusive Employers

National Inclusion Week Webinar Overviews

Engage your whole organisation in National Inclusion Week with our in-house webinars!

We’ve split our webinars into two levels: the Introduction level is full of subjects to kickstart your inclusion journey, and Advanced for organisations who have made more progress in diversity and inclusion.

Introduction level webinars

1. United for Inclusion: A team approach to fostering an inclusive workplace
This session is a great introduction to Inclusion. It will explain what inclusion is and how it is different from diversity and equality. During this session we will explore how individuals, teams and organisations can come together to become inclusive employers.

You will learn:
– The difference between inclusion, diversity and equality
– What makes an organisation inclusive, and why diversity without inclusion doesn’t work
– How to unite people and teams around inclusion, and engage them to kick start your inclusion journey

There will be time for questions and answers so come armed with everything you want to know about engaging people to kick start your inclusion journey.

2. United for Inclusion: Being Anti-racist (Part 1): Developing confidence in conversations about race
Being Anti-racist takes courage and action. It is about visibly challenging discrimination and engaging in conversations that will lead to action and change. While as a society we have been examining and reflecting on our relationship with race and racism, many still do not feel confident enough to engage in this conversation – sometimes through fear of getting it wrong, fear of being judged, or fear of not operating in a safe space.
This webinar will explore some of the challenges faced by employees of all races and ethnicities when talking about race.  We will look at some key concepts to help build your confidence to start conversations that can lead to change.

We will explore:
– Why this is relevant to everyone – through data and real-life examples of the barriers faced by Minority Ethnic groups in society.
– What it means to be Anti-racist: how it differs from non-racist and how the concept has helped evolved the conversation around personal accountability.
– Intersectionality: appreciating individual experiences and how different parts of a person’s identity play a role in their lived experience.
– Unpicking White Privilege – what it is, how it creates blind spots for White people and barriers for other, and how to use one’s privilege to help elevate the voices of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people.

3. United for Inclusion: Understanding and improving disability inclusion
According to the ONS, in 2020, 52% of disabled people were in some form of employment, this number has decreased from previous years. Now more than ever it is critical that employers and their staff understand the importance of creating inclusive systems, processes, environments and behaviours to tackle disability exclusion.
Through interaction and discussion, we will develop our understanding of what a disability is, and how we can challenge and change the narrative that exists around it.

You will learn:
– What is a disability?
– What is ableism?
– How does ableism impact the workplace?
– Every day disability inclusive actions and behaviours in practice

4. United for Inclusion: Trans and non-binary inclusion
Transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people’s workplace experiences are often negative. Sadly, it is all too common for trans people to face discrimination, isolation and abuse, both in public and at work, despite specific protections under the Equality Act. In recent years, overt discrimination and harassment of trans people has visibly increased on social media and in the Press.

This webinar explores how we can go further than simply raising awareness of trans identities, and instead step up to make genuine change in an increasingly hostile environment for trans people in the UK.

Advanced level webinars

1. United for Inclusion: Connecting with global colleagues
This session will explore the inclusion challenges and opportunities faced by global organisations. Employees can be separated by thousands of miles and spread across several time zones, which in itself is tricky, but to grow inclusion across cultural and legal differences presents particular challenges.

The risks of getting it wrong can be enough to make employers give up on a global Inclusion and Diversity agenda but the benefits are substantial if you are able to flex your approach. We support organisations to leverage the huge benefits that uniting for inclusion can give, such as enhanced innovation, performance, psychological safety and connections at the individual, team, and organisational level.

What works in the UK isn’t necessarily going to work globally so our method is focussed on taking a practical approach to global inclusion. Join this session to learn practical approaches to global inclusion.

2. United for Inclusion: Being Anti-racist (Part 2): From conversation to action
Being Anti-racist takes courage and action. It is about visibly challenging discrimination and engaging in conversations that will lead to action and change. This webinar will focus on how to move your antiracist efforts from conversation to action. With a focus on the workspace, we will look at what Anti-racism looks, sounds and feels like in practice, and explore actions that organisations and individuals can take to become antiracist.

We will explore:
– Creating safe spaces: what it takes to create a safe space where conversations and action can happen.
– Addressing language and understanding microaggressions – understanding what race-related microaggressions are and how they have an impact on individuals and culture. We will explore practical ways to challenge microaggressions.
– Unconscious bias: examples of how biases create barriers for ethnic minority groups at work, and what can be done at individual and team level to help mitigate these.
– Anti-racist allyship: understanding individual accountability and identifying key actions to actively contribute to change.

3. United for Inclusion: Disability inclusion in action
“Nothing about Us without Us”. This webinar will look at the reality of disability representation and inclusion in society and the workplace, with a critical lens of the need for more action led allyship for all types of disabilities, differences and impairments. How can we as allies listen more, amplify the voices of those with lived experience and take tangible steps to fostering disability inclusive environments?

Using real life examples this webinar will explore the real impact of excluding disabled people and how society can and should change perceptions and assumptions of those with disabilities and impairments.

In this session, we will explore:
– Language and terminology around disability and impairments.
– The medical and social models of disability.
– Representation and ability bias in society.
– Structural, environmental and team considerations for supporting disability inclusion.
– True disability allyship – a look at what we can do to encourage, champion and foster inclusion in the workplace.

4. United for Inclusion: Leading Inclusive Organisations
For many organisations, 2020 was a turning point for leadership teams. Many leaders found themselves lacking the knowledge and skills to navigate the expectations of staff increasingly looking to them to lead the way through the Covid19 pandemic, the renewed focus on anti-racism and drive for intersectional inclusion of minoritized groups.

This webinar will explore the behaviours of an inclusive leader, the Inclusive Employers model for inclusive leadership and how your leaders at every level can start developing these skills.
