2. Impact Matters: Discover how intersectionality will transform your approach to inclusion

Intersectionality is a much-used term in the world of Inclusion & Diversity, but do you know what it truly means? Intersectionality explores the interconnected nature of social categorisations—such as race, class, and gender—and how these overlapping identities contribute to shaping opportunities and challenges someone has in life. We know that individuals are complex and have multiple parts to their identities, but how does this impact everyday interactions, inclusion efforts and, more importantly, what does it have to do with you?

We will explore this and more in this highly interactive and informative session which will give you new tools to approach this conversation in a more nuanced and complex way.

Session overview:

  • Understand the foundational concept of intersectionality and what it means in practice
  • Different intersectional experiences of different groups and how they help shape a person’s experience
  • The impact in the workplace and consequences of not taking an intersectional lens to inclusion
  • Practical actions to ensure you approach inclusion conversations in a more nuanced and informed way

3. Impact Matters: Mitigate unconscious bias to create conscious inclusion

Probably no topic in the Western inclusion landscape has been more popular in conversations than unconscious bias.

Often known as implicit bias, it refers to the thoughts and associations we have that are not always under our conscious control or awareness. While biases are part of human nature, negating its potentially negative impact can be extremely damaging to workplaces and individuals. They can have an impact on every single element of the employee experience: from recruitment, promotion, and development processes, as well as leadership processes.

But how can you challenge biases to help you make more inclusive decisions? Join us as we explore tools and techniques to help you create conscious inclusion.

Session overview:

  • Understanding what biases are and how they are formed
  • The impact of bias in our everyday working environments, including language and behaviours
  • Recognising how unconscious bias can affect performance, outcomes, processes, and fair decision making
  • Practical strategies and actions to manage or mitigate the impact of bias

4. Impact Matters: Courageous conversations and creating psychological safety in the workplace

A great follow up to webinar 1, or equally impactful as standalone session.

Courageous Conversations are a key part of driving inclusivity – and yet they are notoriously uncomfortable and often avoided.  People often feel ill equipped to engage in the productive dialogue needed to achieve impact.

Psychological safety has been gathering much interest in organisations committed to harnessing the power of diversity and creating inclusive environments – and yet we are only scratching the surface of the true power that psychological safety can bring.

Join us to discover the profound impact of psychological safety as a powerful tool for colleagues, managers and leaders alike to go beyond comfort, break habitual patterns and lean into the power of courageous conversations in support of meaningful progress within your organisation

Session overview:

  • Courageous conversations – discover the power of ‘fearless’ discussions, why they are vital for workplace inclusion and explore what gets in the way of productive dialogue
  • Grasp the concept of psychological safety, explore the 4 different levels of psychological safety and its critical role in fostering courageous conversations
  • Explore key skills and strategies to build and maintain  ‘challenger safety’  including how to challenge non-inclusive behaviour effectively and foster an environment where diverse views can be explored productively
  • Putting learning into practice – Transform insights into action with self reflection, practical strategies and top tips from Inclusive Employers – walk away feeling confident to take the next step for you to play your part in creating an inclusive environment

This session will enable you to reflect on your own perspective, empathise with others, and develop skills that impact organisational practice.
