What is Wear Red Day?

Wear Red Day is an annual event created and organised by the charity Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC). The day is an opportunity to wear red in support of calling racism out. SRtRC continues to utilise the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society and has also expanded into other sports.

The majority of the campaign’s work involves the delivery of educational workshops to young people and adults in schools, workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. Across the UK, SRtRC provides educational sessions to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

When is Wear Red Day?

Wear Red Day 2022 takes place on 21st October.

The importance of Wear Red Day

Anti-racism solidarity is critical for everyone. By wearing red and showing your support, you are a part of a movement that will change lives and promote anti-racism throughout the world.

The day is an opportunity to learn about the history of racism and how it shows itself in today’s society, as well as the changes that can be made to be anti-racist and to stand together to say no to racism.

How to celebrate Show Racism the Red Card Day 2022

There are numerous ways to mark Wear Red Day. Here are some ideas for getting started and displaying your support:

Expand your anti-racism knowledge

Understanding racism and learning how to be truly anti-racist is a good way to spend the day. You may be unaware of much racism exists in the world or how it affects people – this is an opportunity for everyone to open their eyes, explore how to be better, and learn.

If you want to expand your knowledge – explore our anti-racism toolkit here.

Take part or organise a charity event to raise money

The charity Show Racism the Red Card is behind Wear Red Day. Donations are required for the charity to continue its excellent work. You can donate quickly by texting a number that will incur a charge.

Alternatively, getting a fundraising pack and organising a fundraising event is a fantastic way to get actively involved and do something. This can range from a sponsored walk to a bake sale. Download the fundraising pack from Show Racism The Red Card to learn more.

Spread the word on social media

One of the most effective ways to share content and spread the word is through social media. #WRD22 is the hashtag to use this year to share what you’re doing for Wear Red Day.

You can use this hashtag to share your fundraising efforts, learning, and support, among other things.
