1) Can you tell us how you came to be in your role
With seven years of experience in marketing, I have had the opportunity to work with various companies, continually striving to make a significant impact both for the current employees and future colleagues. In my previous position, I not only managed my marketing responsibilities but also served as the chair of the employee network. This role allowed me to actively contribute to making diversity and inclusion an everyday reality, particularly for our LGBTQ+ employees. My involvement in organising and participating in National Inclusion Week activities was particularly fulfilling.
As I sought my next career challenge, I found that Inclusive Employers perfectly aligned with my passion for Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) as well as marketing. This organisation resonated with my professional goals and personal values. When I secured the role, I vividly recall sharing my excitement with friends and anyone who would listen: “I am going to work for the creators of National Inclusion Week!”
2) Can you share an ‘inclusion moment’ with us – a time when you have felt included either at work or in your personal life?
Throughout my career, despite being accepted, loved, and appreciated in various roles, I often felt like I didn’t entirely fit in. There were aspects of my personality and identity that I felt compelled to hide. Whether it was caring too deeply or being too outspoken, I never felt completely at ease being my true self in the workplace.
However, joining Inclusive Employers was a transformative experience for me. For the first time, I felt wholly included and able to be my authentic self. My colleagues respected and appreciated me for who I am, and I realised that it was indeed possible to find a workplace where one can be fully accepted and valued.
Review your policies through an inclusion framework“I have two standout moments in my inclusion career. First, serving as the chair of the employee network in my previous role, where I had the opportunity to develop a transitioning at work policy. This experience was incredibly rewarding as it directly contributed to creating a more inclusive workplace environment.”
3) What do you love most about your role?
As a Digital Marketing Manager at Inclusive Employers, my role primarily focuses on data and website performance—areas I am particularly passionate about. I ensure that our clients and members have the best possible experience when using our website. This involves constant analysis and improvement to meet the high standards we set for ourselves.
Additionally, I have the privilege of participating in various projects, including National Inclusion Week and Global Inclusion Week. These initiatives allow me to collaborate with knowledgeable I&D professionals and continually learn and grow in my field. The variety of projects and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful causes are what I love most about my role.
4) What is a typical day like for you?
In marketing, no two days are the same, which keeps my work both exciting and dynamic. Given that my role revolves around website management and data analysis, I support various colleagues and departments with their respective needs.
My day-to-day activities include analysing website performance metrics, optimising user experience, and collaborating on diverse projects. This variety ensures that each day is unique and allows me to continually apply my skills in new and impactful ways.
5) What’s been you most memorable moment in your inclusion career?
I have two standout moments in my inclusion career. First, serving as the chair of the employee network in my previous role, where I had the opportunity to develop a transitioning at work policy. This experience was incredibly rewarding as it directly contributed to creating a more inclusive workplace environment.
Second, joining Inclusive Employers and working for the organisation that initiated National Inclusion Week has been a highlight of my career. Being part of such a pioneering and influential organisation in the field of inclusion and diversity has been both inspiring and fulfilling.
