Inclusive Employers launches membership scheme for schools.

  • New organisation helps schools introduce inclusion and create no-go zones for discrimination.
  • Tools, training and support, which make complying with the Equality Duty straight forward.
  • Schools can share good practice with other sectors and demonstrate they’re committed to equality and inclusion.

Rachel Krys, Director of Inclusive Employers comments: “We’re really excited about extending our membership offering to schools.  It’s more important than ever that schools go beyond what is legally required, they are critical in introducing inclusive behaviours to children and creating a culture where discrimination considered unacceptable.  Schools are able to reflect their diverse communities in a very positive way and have a lot of experiences to share with other sectors.

As education providers and employers, schools have a huge responsibility in this area.  I believe that schools will benefit from both sharing when things are going well and receiving support when problems arise.”

The Inclusive Employers Schools scheme goes beyond basic guidance on legal changes to provide resources, information, training and support to build modern, inclusive cultures in schools of all sizes.

Membership includes access to an Equality Duty workbook, a comprehensive guide detailing everything schools have to do to comply with the new Equality Duty.  Alongside information about managing equality at schools and creating inclusive cultures, the workbook contains a model annual report and equality objectives framework, accompanied by a phrase bank, which will make demonstrating compliance straightforward.

Inclusive Employers will also support member schools in their work to create the best environment for their pupils and employees through a virtual staff room, guidance on increasing the diversity of boards of governors and worksheets for staff, governors and head teachers detailing their responsibilities.  Members will be able to use the ‘Committed to being an Inclusive Employer’ logo to promote their work externally.
