Carers

Carers are a group often left out of discussions on diversity. Yet, understanding who carers are, what they can contribute to your organisation and how to work with them to provide the flexible working schedules they might need to do their best in their role is important to developing an inclusive environment. Inclusive Employers explains:

  • who carers are;
  • different types of flexible working and how to arrange special leave and time off in emergencies;
  • legal rights of carers and employers;
  • best practice and useful links.

Here's a taste of what you'll read as a member on our website...

Carers | Your employees will have many different roles and responsibilities outside of work. Whether they have disabled children, partners or older relatives with long-term health conditions there are an increasing number of carers working full or part-time in the UK. In fact, one in seven of your employees are likely to have some caring responsibilities for a member of their family and one in five will stop working because they are unable to balance the dual demands of work and caring. The largest single age group of carers is the 45-64 year olds, so it is likely that many of your senior or long-serving staff will be among that group. The number of carers in the UK is predicted to rise from around 6 million to 9 million, so with a working-age population of just over 29 million, this is a significant proportional increase and one employers should not overlook. | What can employers do? | Supporting flexible working arrangements for all your employees is a great place to start. Flexibility benefits everyone and can be especially helpful to those employees with caring responsibilities. Flexible working includes: - compressed working hours - term-time work - job-shares - part-time work...
